2nd Grade Reading Toothy is proving to be a huge hit with 2nd grade teachers and students all over the world! This post will break down exactly what’s included in each set, how to prep, and how to implement these task kits in your classroom.

Your students will receive all the practice they need to practice their reading skills through the use of these Reading Task Cards! There are a total of 360 passages, short stories, and scenarios included in this bundle. All of these are written with a 2nd grade text complexity level. The answers on the back of the cards allow for these activities to be self-paced and self-correcting. #2ndgrade
2nd Grade Reading Toothy

The 2nd Grade Reading Toothy has a total of 360 high-interest passages, short stories, and scenarios. All of these are written with a 2nd grade text complexity level. The answers on the back of the cards allow for these activities to be self-paced and self-correcting. 

Answers can be written on a Toothy mat, recording sheet, marker board, or notebook paper. This activity can be done independently, with a partner, small group, or whole group.

Main Idea & Key Details

Your students will receive all the practice they need to reinforce the skill of main idea and key details with this pack! There are 12 fiction and nonfiction short stories included. Each short story features a clear main idea with key details. There are a total of 84 text-dependent questions (7 questions for each story). Students will need to use information within the text to determine the answers to the questions. #2ndgrade

    Hi! I am new to Toothy and already in love with the Reading! I am trying to print them but I am having a hard time getting the answer sheets (recording sheets) and other items (checklist etc) to print. Is there something I am missing? Thank you!

      Hi Marisa!
      Thank you so much for purchasing my Toothy Task Kits! I’m sorry you’re having trouble printing it. This can sometimes happen with image heavy files like this one. There is an easy fix for this issue, though. First, make sure you have the most current version of Adobe Reader. You can find it here: https://get.adobe.com/reader/.
      Make sure you download the file and save it to your computer before opening it.
      It sounds like you are either opening with an old version of Adobe Reader or if you are on a Mac, you may be opening the file in “Preview”. That is often the default setting so be sure to check that. With a Mac, try opening Adobe Reader first (rather than just double clicking on the file), then “open with” the file in Adobe Reader.
      If that doesn’t work, try this advice from TpT Tech Support:

      1) Open the PDF file with Adobe Reader

      2) Click ‘print’

      3) Click on ‘advanced’

      4) Check the ‘print as image’ box, and this should cover all potential issues

      This has worked for me every time I run into an issue, but if you are still having trouble TPT Support will help you further. They are wonderful and quick, and will be able to guide you through solving any issues you are still having that are beyond my tech level. You can submit a ticket by scrolling to the bottom of the homepage and clicking on ‘Contact Us’

    Did I read somewhere that you are working on or have done a 3rd grade set of reading toothy cards? I would love to get them if so for my 3rd grade ela blocks. I loved the toothy when I taught first grade.

Yes we do have 3rd Grade reading Toothy and it now comes in either a printable version or a digital version depending on how you’re teaching this year you can chose which is best for you!
