Sight words make up 50%-75% of the words in children's books. Wow! No wonder they are important for kids to know. Sight words are words that children need to memorize. Typically, they are not words that can be “sounded out” but instead must be learned by sight. Memorization can be achieved through repetitive practice using fun and free sight word activities. Free Sight Word Activities
How to Set Up the Free Activities With Your Own Custom Words
First of all, download the freebie (linked at the bottom of this post). Next, type your sight word list on page two. The video below will walk you through how to complete this step.
How to Use Sight Tac Toe
After you've typed in your custom word list, print the sight tac toe activity. Give one page to two students. Assign a sight word to each student. Students take turns writing the sight word on the tic tac toe board. The first student to get three in a row wins!
Use a dry erase pocket or sleeve to play this over and over again!
How to Use Color, Trace, Write
After entering the sight words on page two of the freebie file found below, print the number of pages you need for your class. Students choose a marker, crayon, or colored pencil. Start at the top. Color the first word. Trace the second word. Write the third word. The student can cover up the words and try to spell the word from memory.
