Oh My Exhaustion!!!!!

After 10 years of having that first day back at school you would think that I would remember the level of exhaustion that a teacher feels by 3:30 p.m. when you send your kids off to the bus.  Wrong!  Every year I am surprised.  I think it’s like going into labor.  We block it out.  Ha!  No?

Anyways, I’m going to make this short and sweet because I have dinner to cook, a garden to pick, and a busy 3 year old to play with!  I have been asked by many of you how I start out the year with my interactive notebooks.  My answer is this…baby steps!

If your class is like mine (I adore them by the way), we can only handle tasks that last for a max of 15 minutes.  My assigned schedule this year has me teaching math from 2:00-3:00…EEEK!  My kids were tired EXHAUSTED when 2:00 came and I knew that I wanted to do something productive with them!  So…I showed them some finished examples of what interactive notebook pages look like and I am happy to report that they got really excited!  Then they chose a notebook cover (FREE IN MY STORE).  They did a beautiful job adding color to these and then we “drippy glued” them to the front of a spiral notebook.  I already had the yarn attached to the spiral to serve as a bookmark.  Tomorrow’s agenda item is to cut and glue in our Table of Contents pages.  If you are wondering, I suspect this to take about 15 minutes and then we will move on with our math lesson.  I leave you with my sweet group of 2nd graders who are proud of their new grade level!  Thank you Mel from Seusstastic Classroom Inspirations for the cute photo prop idea!
