2016 Plans and Goals

Happy New Year!  2016 is going to be a year of amazing things and so I want to bring to you my word for the year and my plans to achieve the goals that I have set for myself.
My word for 2015 was STRIVE.  You can read about that in my post from one year ago.  Reflecting back on my goals, plans, and word for 2015, I would have to say that I am beyond blessed and thankful for everything that happened to me in 2015.  In fact, blessed might even be an understatement.  Words just don’t come close to describing the amount of gratitude I feel for the connections I have made and the opportunities I have been given.

Looking forward, my word for 2016 is FEARLESS.

I am a believer that goals are great if you have a plan in place.  I have decided to share with you my top classroom, business, and personal goals for 2016 as well as the plans I have put in place to achieve those goals.

There are a lot of things we can do to build relationships with our students in an effort to be the best teachers we can be.  Some of the specific plans I have for achieving this are taking time out of the week to fill out certificates that highlight the positives in my students.  I will have a checklist to ensure all of my students are receiving these.  I also want to be better about using my Remind app to reach out to the families.  I plan to set an alarm on my phone that will remind me to send out the message more frequently.  This will also help the families feel more connected to me as their child’s teacher and our classroom.  Lastly, I will continue to stay connected to the online community of educators.  I want to participate in more Twitter chats and Voxer group chats.  Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest are always providing me with creative, new, and current ideas for my classroom.  I will continue to place value in the time spent on those platforms.

I feel that I am a creative person but sometimes the busy hustle bustle of the school year will hinder this creativity.  My plans to tap into my creative inner self are to take a photography and videography class to help me learn better and more creative techniques with my photos and videos.  I want to incorporate videos into more of my products and promotion.  I feel like videos portray a genuine and authentic side of my business.  This is where my word for the year comes into play.  I need to make an effort to be FEARLESS with this because video and photos of myself are not in my comfort zone.  But we know that quote…”Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”  Some of the scariest and most uncomfortable things I have done in the past couple of years have been the most rewarding.

I need to practice what I preach when it comes to this area.  I am a big promoter of taking time for yourself and charging your batteries but often times, I find that I am not doing this myself.  I want to make more of an effort to having me time.  Praying, reflecting, journaling, reading my bible, working out, spending time with my family, and sometimes doing NOTHING.  That’s right.  Nothing.  I don’t EVER do this.  I am always GO! GO! GO!  I am going to make a conscious effort to slow down.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s just innate for me to want to go a million miles an hour sometimes.  BUT, not all the time.  I need to seriously work on this.

What are your goals or plans for 2016?  Do you have a word for the year?  Comment below, I’d love to connect with you!

Angie, love your word!! I can relate to a lot of how you feel and I picked "confident!" I love how specific you are with your goals. I also wanted to thank you for your AWESOME "coffee talk" scope! It is so essential to have a plan in place to keep you "focused" (Ashley shout-out of course). I was kind of embarrassed when I looked to see how many hearts I gave you lol but then I thought about how much you deserved them for your words of wisdom and realness!! Keep being you!!

I love that you picked fearless! You are such an inspiration. I'm starting out, so I picked a theme instead of a word. For me, it's the "year of how" as I figure out how to do all the things I'd like to do!
