How’s the weather where you are? Up here in Minnesota it has been COLD and SNOWY! On the days that we do have school, we have spent A LOT of them inside for recess. I don’t know who goes more crazy, the kids or the teachers! I think I have drank more coffee in the month of January than any other month in the past year in an effort to keep up with these kiddos!
Speaking of which, we are learning about subtracting 2-digit numbers with regrouping lately. It has been my focus to keep these kids up and moving lately since they are so cooped up inside! This week we played a 2-Digit Subtraction Scoot and my kids LOVED it! Any time I take out a scoot game, they tell me that it doesn’t even feel like they are doing math (love that)!
I like to hang the scoot cards up around the outside walls of the classroom so that the kids have to walk around the room to find the cards.
When they find a card they write it down on their recording sheet. This is great practice for reinforcing the importance of lining up the tens and ones!
After all of the math problems have been found and written down on the recording sheet, the students go back to their desks to solve. Fun, engaging, and effective!
